In total, the Gaming Authority revealed that since the beginning of the year, 29 registrations from gaming operators have been accumulated. Therefore, there is still an open system where candidates can still fulfill the necessary requirements to legally operate in the Netherlands.
Having said that, the Chairman of the Gaming Authority's Board of Directors, René Jansen, commented on the licenses for operators. According to Jansen, there are still some applications open. However, Jansen said there will be strict conditions that must be met, as well as rigorous testing that will be done. But above all, Jansen emphasized that in the future there will be more license holders in the Netherlands. However, it is worth noting that there are still some categories that were not properly authorized, and there are still some entries that were not submitted.
"Applications are still pending and we expect to receive a significant number of new applications by April 2022. There will be operators who postponed submitting their applications in connection with the so-called ‘cooling off’ period as a result of the Postema Parliamentary motion. And there probably are operators who waited with submitting an application for the simple reason that they were not yet ready to do so. Strict conditions must be met and rigorous testing is carried out. But there will certainly be more license holders."
After confirmation of the Remote Gambling Act, online gambling is properly legalized and regulated, but that's not all. The entity also works with the objective of preventing users from drug addiction to games and advertising on the subject. In this way, Koa Law is a great helper for the evolution of the games in the Netherlands. The Law in question, offers a protection to the customer, which protects him from acquiring an addiction to games, and above all, fighting crime and illegal operations of the modality. The Koa Law was enacted this year, more precisely on April 1st. That said, the law still allowed the market to open on October 1st.
Among the game operators that have shown interest in entering the Netherlands market, there is Entain. The group had already shown a strong interest in the market, even before legalization came to life. In conjunction with Entain, several other operators stated that they would enter the Netherlands market if there was proper regulation. Therefore, a good percentage of the legalization took place, it was due to the interest of these operators in entering the local market.
Having said that, the speech of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gaming Autorithy ends up ensuring a high expectation for the local market. As reported, there are still some applications pending for game operators, not to mention the category that has not yet been properly authorized. However, as there is still a great interest from providers in entering the market, the country still has to send the other applications that are not ready yet.
